Excerpt - Heat Level PG13
Archer hooked an arm around Leslie as he walked her out of the Wild Beat. The girls’ night had finally broken up, and the others started to go home. They’d finally been able to coax their mate out of the bar. Not that the night had been bad.
Talking with Jason and Tony had been great, and dancing with Leslie had made his evening. During the night, her muscles had relaxed, and now a soft smile curved his mate’s mouth. The time with her friends and telling them everything she’d been keeping to herself had lifted a weight off her.
Apparently, it had been quite a night. The women had laughed and drank. None of them came away drunk, but the liquor had relaxed them. They’d also stayed much longer than he expected.
Other people slowly made their way across the parking lot, as well. Cars started and pulled out. People piled into taxis, and the vehicles pulled out of the parking lot. His gaze moved over anyone close to them. Probably a little paranoia, but she was too important to risk.
They stepped into the shadows between the wide circle from the parking lot lights. His muscles tensed, and his heartbeat pounded. When they stepped out into the glowing light, he rolled his shoulders. Get control.
They strolled across the parking lot. The low hum of a motor broke the near silence. Archer turned his head. No bright lights flared, not even the red glow of the brake lights.
“How about we stop for some ice cream on the way home?” Leslie tugged at his hand.
“Sounds good. It will have to be a store. I’m pretty sure that all the restaurants and shops are closed by now.” Judge glanced back at her.
She grinned. “A little carton or two of ice cream suits me.”
“We can get you a couple of those and me the ingredients for a jumbo banana split.” Judge aimed for their car.
Archer mouth watered. Bananas, chocolate, strawberries, and nuts. Yum. He nodded. Maybe they could alter the plans a little. Smearing some of the ingredients from that sweet treat on Leslie and licking it off her might make it even better.
She’d go wild as they cleaned fudge off her with their mouths. Hell, he might leave the ice cream at the store and simply get the fudge, whip cream, and bananas. The creamy whipped topping, sweet fruit, and thick fudge would taste even better with the salty tang of her skin. Driving her wild and feeding his sweet tooth at the same time, such a wonderful combination.
A motor revved. The rumbling sound broke the night. He glanced around and behind them, but nothing moved, and no lights came on.
“What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream, Leslie?” He leaned close to her.
The motor roared again. He glanced behind them. The car was somewhere there. Hair stood on the back of Archer’s neck. Something was wrong.
Tires squealed as they fought for purchase on the asphalt. Fuck. Not good.
“It’s called Double Chocolate Sin and Crunch. It’s chocolate ice crea—” Leslie squeaked. Her voice cut off.
Archer’s arm tightened, and he wrenched her to the side.

Madeline Archer's, The Changeling Book Tour presented by @SensuousPromos #Sweet #PNR #Fantasy

Welcome to the Book Tour for Madeline Archer's The Changeling. This is a sweet paranormal love story which has just been made available, but it's already gaining interest and climbing the Amazon charts.

Half-fae Lenox Pendry is surrounded by secrets and none are his to keep. Plucked from his mother’s arms as an infant and raised a changeling, Lenox grows to adulthood unaware of what and who he is and oblivious to the danger unfolding as his birthday draws near. After he’s unwittingly sent to the Scottish Lowlands out of harm’s way, he chances to meet a beautiful healer named Janet Roxburgh. The townspeople believe her to be a witch. It would appear Janet has a few secrets of her own.

Note: Madeline Archer is the pen name of award-winning author Rose Anderson. The Changeling comes from the sweeter side of Rose’s imagination and was inspired by the Scottish ballad of Tam Lin. Rated PG.

Excerpt~Setting the Stage:

Three babies are born one night in a convoluted, yet calculated, turn of events. The first infant is cruelly torn from his grieving mother’s arms and swapped for another to be raised a changeling. The third child dies shortly after birth. In a daring act of love, the first infant replaces the third before his new mother knows her own child has died. Or that’s the plan…

November 1, 1867

Frances March hurried cautiously along the stable wall. So distracted by their conspiracy of mercy, she nearly jumped out of her shoes at the nicker of a horse. The sooner this deed was done, the better.

Pressing flat to the wall, she listened for the stableman, but heard only the muffled sound of stabled horses and the hoot of a distant owl. It was imperative that no one — upstairs or down —  see her. She peered around the corner and watched as her sister disappeared through the hedge. Pulling her shawl tightly around her and the bundle she held, she scurried across the gardens to the library and slipped inside quietly. The head butler was waiting.

He stated rather than asked, “You’re certain no one saw you . . . ”

With a nod she went to warm herself by the fire, her bundle held close. The grandfather clock in the hall struck one.

Osgood checked his watch against it. He pressed, “Did you explain to your sister she must never speak of this again?”

“Yes, Mr. Osgood. As I said before, Agnes says no one would believe the truth of it anyway. She’d be ridiculed…her reputation ruined. And there’s always the possibility she could be blamed for the other. It is unbelievable, no?”

“It is at that.” Osgood nodded. “I scarcely believe it myself, Fanny. What about the poor still babe?”

Her eyes brimmed with tears. “Agnes will see him to the cradle and hopefully none will be the wiser. Mrs. Benton will think her own baby died and he’ll get a decent burial. And that’s pretty much the truth, isn’t it? Her own son is as good as dead. Poor, poor laddie, wherever he is now.” She crossed herself.

Osgood peered out into the night before locking the French doors and drawing the heavy curtains closed. “It’s as it should be.”

“Is it? Was it wise to switch them, Mr. Osgood? I mean, the baker and his wife —”

“— Had their child taken, with nothing to be done for it. They have seven living children to love, Fanny. Her ladyship has four in the grave. Five now.”

Frances frowned. “Has her ladyship awakened?”

He shook his head. “Doctor Fischer administered a sedative. Lady Amelia was done out. She went to sleep believing her child alive and has no idea of the tragedy that occurred but half an hour later.”

“My poor lady. To go through that long labor and, in the end, the babe too weak to survive.” Emotion welling, Frances wiped her eyes. “What do you suppose they do with the babies they take?”

Osgood blinked his own sentiment away. “I can’t say. My old Welsh grannie said the fae only took the sickly ones. But back then it was only legend.”

“My Scottish gran told us the same,” Frances said, shaking her head. “But Agnes says Libby Benton’s baby wasn’t sickly but strong and healthy. Nearly every child of the Benton’s is as towheaded as their father, except for the two with the ginger hair like their mother. Agnes said Libby’s babe was destined to be ginger.”

Osgood went to the decanter and poured two small glasses of sherry. He handed one to her before downing his in one swallow. “Did your sister witness the switch?”

Frances sipped then shook her head. “When Agnes went to tidy the mother, she left the sleeping babe in the crib with no one to watch him. And, why would she think he needed to be watched? She helped bring the others into the world without fuss. It was minutes only that he was out of her sight. When she went back, another, with black hair, was in his place. That’s when she told Libby the babe was asleep and she should rest a while. So distressed was Agnes that she ran up to the hill to find me.”

He nodded. “It was fortunate she did. Another hour and everyone might have known.”

“Oh yes, it was fortunate. Libby’s husband was at the bakery mixing his dough, and the other children were sleeping up the stairs . . . one more child to such a large family brought little interest in him, you see. There was no one to witness the deed. Will you be telling Mrs. Smithson?”

“No, Fanny. No one in this household, save you and I, will know. Of course Mrs. Smithson would keep the secret if I asked her to, but that isn’t necessary. We shan’t burden anyone else with the truth.”

Frances uncovered the bundle in her arms. Looking down, she smiled. “He’s a handsome laddie, don’t you think? I’m no expert, mind, but Agnes and I both suspect the babe is of mixed race. His little ears . . . ”

Moving to her side, Osgood broke into a smile of his own. The little bundled boy was sleeping. He ran a gentle fingertip over the small, slightly pointed ear. “Yes, he very well could be. And yes, he’s a handsome little man  — dark like Master Evan was. May his soul in heaven forgive us.”

The lady’s maid put a reassuring hand on the head butler’s arm. “He wouldn’t want her ladyship’s heart to be broken more than it already is. You know how he loved her.”

“I do,” he nodded. “As I see it, the baker’s child is no more, taken away to some faery hill no doubt, never to be seen again, if the old stories are true. This little boy did not belong with the Benton family anyway. He’s black-haired, for one. He’d grow being different, maybe disliked or mistrusted, even despised by his father as another man’s bastard. Danny Benton is a highlander. You know how they are — with their superstitions —  when they feel something isn’t quite right. The child would suffer for a situation not of his making. It harms no one that he be raised a Pendry.”

She nodded. “Yes, you’re right Mr. Osgood. If nothing else, this is the better life of the two.”

“It most certainly is. Master Evan is gone and Master John has been missing for a fortnight. Solicitors across London have been inquiring high and low for his whereabouts, but it isn’t looking good, Fanny. Should anything have happened to Master John, there is no other heir living. This little man may very well become the 10th Earl of Pendry.”

To the babe, Osgood leaned down and whispered, “And the family name will continue because of you. Shall we meet your mummy little sir?”

A Cowboy’s Christmas Wish (One Night With A Cowboy) by Sorcha Mowbray Hot Holiday Treats tour

Hello, I’m Sorcha Mowbray, one of the Silken Sheets & Seduction authors. Thanks for stopping by our blog tour to celebrate HOT HOLIDAY TREATS!

99 cents for a limited time! All Romance ~ Kindle ~ NOOK ~ iBooks ~ Kobo

This is my first time in a boxed set, and I love that I got to share this with my fellow Silken Sheets authors. I will say it was so strange to write about Christmas while it was ninety degrees out! But, I have to say I’d do it again in a heartbeat. And, I hope we can do another Silken Sheets box set again soon. J

My story is A Cowboy’s Christmas Wish, a new short in my ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY series. It is a M/F pairing and features an alpha cowboy who wants a second chance with the woman he walked away from as a young man. The woman has other plans, like love ‘em and leave ‘em revenge.

A Cowboy’s Christmas Wish, like the other stories Taking Her Chance and Claiming His Cowgirl, is set in Texas and features the Soul Mate Dating service. The series premise is that Selena Markham has a knack for setting people up and turns it into a successful business. Each of the stories features a cowboy and a woman who end up on an arranged date through the service...or in one case, almost. With only one night to figure things out the couples often find themselves facing a lot of soul searching mixed in with a lot of hot sex. A Cowboy’s Christmas Wish is no different, especially with the second chance romance theme.

I hope you will check out the box set – it’s a steal for 99 cents, and it’s only available a limited time. So, be sure to grab your copy and cozy up with this fantastic set of stories that range from cowboys to demons and everywhere in between!

~

You can find me around the web...

Sorcha Mowbray is a mild mannered office worker by day…okay, so she is actually a mouthy, opinionated, take charge kind of gal who bosses everyone around; but she definitely works in an office. At night she writes romance so hot she sets the sheets on fire! Just ask her slightly singed husband.

She is a longtime lover of historical romance, having grown up reading Johanna Lindsey and Judith McNaught. Then she discovered Thea Devine and Susan Johnson. Holy cow! Heroes and heroines could do THAT? From there, things devolved into trying her hand at writing a little smexy. Needless to say, she liked it and she hopes you do too!

Noel Tierney thought she’d have enough time before the predicted storm to make it to her holiday retreat, but the snow hit sooner than expected. Caught unprepared on a treacherous pass, poor visibility and icy conditions lead to a crash. She lay immobile in her vehicle, stranded in a ditch in the most remote leg of her journey.

A faceless hero comes to her rescue and Noel has no choice but to wait out the blizzard in her rescuer’s unique cabin nestled in the woods. Everything about Grayson James peaks her curiosity—his valor, air of mystery and most of all, undeniable attractiveness.

For three days and nights, passions are unleashed and unexpected emotions are brought to life. When the storm breaks, Grayson vanishes into thin air, but not before revealing startling news that leaves her questioning her sanity.

Fast forward years later and Noel is in the southernmost part of the United States. She’d come seeking solace after her husband’s tragic death, but what finds her in Key West is more than she ever anticipated.

In the sultry summer, her unbridled winter’s ecstasy resurrects.

And so does the Vampire.

"In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”

-Albert Camus

Story Excerpt:

Dark yet welcoming, the restaurant pulled them in with its ambiance.

The plastered walls were sponged in color blocks of a deep red and black. The ceilings were painted in a high polish black and stone black tile lined the floor. Striking kabuki masks and detailed silk kimono robes lined the walls

The women shared the restaurant with no one except the spiciness of sriracha seasonings and robust scent of the rich soy sauce that filled the air. They sat on their high top stools at the bar, enjoying the food and the reprieve from the heat.

“Air conditioning is nice, huh?” Noel asked.

“Yes, I’ll give you that. I forgot how sticky this weather can be. I think we have to get used to having bad hair and make up days.”

 “I think you’re right.”

Suzanne finished sipping the last of the broth. “The soup is amazing. It’s not the kind of cuisine I had in mind for our vacation in Key West, though.”

“I had no clue this was even here. But, I needed this…helped with my hangover.”

“Feel better?”

“Absolutely. I think I can tackle a Sandhill Hooker shot or two today. After all, we are on the infamous Duval Street.”

“Okay, pickle juice that way…now you’re talking.”

She looked around the place and smiled. “It’s pretty cool in here.”

Suzanne leaned her head back. “And look at how high the ceiling is. I like all that exposed ductwork. I wonder what this place was before?”

“This used to be a club,” said the waitress as she carried in a case of liquor from the kitchen to the bar.

“This was a club?” Suzanne asked.

“Yeah. You two new to Key West?”

“First time here.”

Noel sat quietly listening to the conversation unfold between Suzanne and the waitress.

“You want a little history on this building you won’t hear about on any tour guide?” The waitress asked as she unpacked the box and carefully placed the bottles on the lighted shelves behind the bar.

“Sure.”

“This restaurant and the entire vacant spot next door used to be one big club.” The waitress turned around and pointed towards the ceiling. “There was an entire second floor up there. The owners of the restaurant demolished it since the place is small and narrow. The height makes it feel spacious. You can sorta tell how it looked like the second floor with that small area they kept above the kitchen. The red spiral staircase you see leading up to that area…that’s original to the building.”

“Yeah, taking the second floor out does make it feel bigger. So the club must’ve been packed all the time to have two floors, huh?”

The waitress laughed and leaned against the counter. “They didn’t advertise.  And you notice it’s off of Duval right?”

The women nodded.

“Not much foot traffic on this street like Duval. This was the hush-hush place. You had to get invited. Secret door knock and password would let you in—extremely private and exclusive.”

“You ever get invited?”

“Oh, God, no. I have no idea who got invited, but I wasn’t one of them. In fact, I never knew the club existed until a friend told me that the owners were going to put the building up for sale a few years ago. I was like, ‘what club?’ And the thing was, I walked past the place many times and always thought it was an abandoned building.”

“So what was the deal? Why was it private? What went on?”

“Rumors claimed it as an adult playground.”

“If the place was still in operation, somehow I know Suzanne would get an invite,” Noel chimed in.

Suzanne flashed a wicked smile.

“Possibly,” the waitress said. “Get’s your thoughts going, right? Like, what exactly happened in there? Who went there? But the one thing I was always curious about was seeing the place. They say it was like being on another planet.”

Noel awaited a break in the conversation to jump back in with her questions. But movement from out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. She snapped her head to look at the loft area and gasped.

“What?” the waitress asked in a concerning tone.

She scanned the area in confusion.

“What’s wrong?” Suzanne asked.

“I-I thought I saw something up there.”

The waitress peered into the kitchen. “Can’t be. No one else is here except Jesse and he’s at sink.”

“What’s that door up there?”

“That’s the access point to the space next door, but its sealed shut from the other side. Trust me. I’ve tried to see if I could get in to sneak a peek.”

“What is it that you think you saw?” Suzanne asked.

She shrugged her shoulders as goose bumps paraded along her skin. The same feeling stirred again—as if she were being watched. “I thought I saw someone looking down on us from that railing.”

Suzanne turned to the waitress. “We partied a bit last night.”

“That tends to happen in Key West.”

“I think we’ll take the check and I’ll get this one out for some much needed fresh air and vitamin D.”

“Sure thing.”

“I’m not crazy, Suzanne,” she whispered as she reached for her purse.

“I didn’t say you were. I just think you need to get outside.”

“Sammy told you right?”

“What?”

“The boat? Me freaking out that someone was watching me last night?”

“Yes. But, honey, I think you’re just thinking of Dante being in this place and visualizing him. That’s all.”

The waitress slid the check across the counter and Suzanne immediately snatched it up. “My treat. You get drinks tonight.”

“Thanks.”

Suzanne placed the cash on top of counter. “Keep the change, darling. Thanks for the 411 on this place. Very interesting.”

“No problem. You guys go have fun.”

Character: Noel Tierney                                                                             Character: Grayson James

Adult Excerpt 18+:

“You don’t know me, Noel. I may look like something you’re used to, but on the inside, I-I am not a man—”

She lifted her head and sensually kissed his chin, breaking him in mid-sentence. “I know you can’t offer me anything past this. I get it. But you are a man and I want you.” She tilted her crotch upwards and spread her legs wider, giving him more access to her pussy that was wet and ready. She circled her hips slowly, rubbing her moist and swollen lips against his long, hard shaft.

“You don’t understand,” he whispered with an ache of torment in his voice. He buried his face into her neck. “You just don’t get it.”  He sucked on her flesh right where her neck met her shoulder.

“Oh!” Her eyes rolled back in her head. She shut her eyes tight, concentrating on the sensation he stirred in her body.

Most women say it’s their nipples, but for her, the most sensitive part on her body lie at the crook of her neck. A treasure-trove full of pleasure nerves, her neck proved her undoing. If a man kissed her at the right spot, with the correct amount of pressure, she could be sent over the edge. And with his performance, Grayson delivered her right to the gates of heaven.

“I can come with you just worshiping my neck,” she whispered seductively in his ear.

He continued devouring her flesh. He caught her muscle in his teeth and bit down.

“Jesus!” she yelped in surprise.

A burst of iciness shot through her muscles. The burn traveled all through her shoulders, down to her fingers. Another trail went into action, extending up past her neck and wrapping around her skull like a glove.

No pain existed.

A new sensation emerged.

The cold turned to heat, soothing her down to her bones. All the tension she held in her neck and shoulders since the accident faded.

And then that unmistakable feeling rolled in.

“I’m gonna come!”

She hadn’t a clue what he was doing or why he obsessed with kissing her neck.

She simply said a silent thank you for whatever magic spell he performed on her.

He remained planted at her neck while his hand positioned his cock at her opening. She continued riding the waves of pleasure when he entered her. He released her neck and focused his eyes on her body. Hunger burned in his stare.

“Take me,” she begged.

He huffed and wrapped his hands around her waist. He kneeled back and tilted her pelvis up as he thrust into her.

She gasped at the angle of his entry.

He speared her with his luscious cock over and over again, slow in his rhythm, but steady and deep in his penetration. He fit snuggly inside of her, stretching her just to a point that transformed the woman inside of her to an animal. “Yes, do everything to me. I’m all yours.”
